Q&A

The assignment in class was to conduct a question and answer interview with a classmate or anyone we wanted to interview. I chose to interview my fellow classmate Vic Douglas for the assignment. We did the interview in one day it did take a few takes, but we got it done.
The scene was in a classroom and it was filmed by Csyabeaw Ford.
Check out my video below.

PSA: Stop Bullying

We were to choose to do either a 60-90 second PSA or a commercial for our final project in Harwood's Advanced TV Production class. I chose to do a PSA on bullying since it is a major problem in our schools. A lot of children won't tell anyone at home that they're being bullied, and the parents don't ask questions. No one knows until it's too late.

The project itself wasn't difficult at all, it was trying to find people to stage as a bullying scene that was the hard part, but it all came together. Trying to edit it together while keeping all the good material was a hard task as well. We were told to have 15-17 different angles and i couldn't see how to do that with the material i had, because it was more of a story to every shot i captured. My PSA was on bullying and here is my video.

Three Point Lighting

In class we discussed 3 point lighting and what each lighting does. The back light is used to illuminate the space behind the subject's head so he/she stands out from the background. The key light is the primary light source and is positioned behind the interviewer's shoulder opposite the camera, to illuminate the subject's face. The fill light fills in the shadows created by the key light so the light is even across the subject's face.

The lesson was demonstrated by classmates who volunteered to be the subjects. We took pictures from different angles capturing the different lighting at a time to see how each one worked. It was an interesting experience to see how much different lightings can do and how they make your photos look better. Here are my videos.

Capture That Light

Our assignment this week, was to work with the portable light reflectors. The light reflectors bounce the light from the sun that creates that harsh glare in your photos, and creates a beautifully lit portait. We had to take three photographs: first picture is the person shot with harsh glare from the sun, the second is the reflector being used to bounce the sunlight onto the subject's face, and the third is a wide shot of the reflector in action. My subject for the project was Lynn McGrier. Kiiyah Stokes is seen holding the reflector to capture Lynn's great photo.

Five Questions Sequence

We were given the assignment to do a five questions sequence where we each had to produce (record), host, and be the guest of the short sequence. The project seemed simple enough when we discussed it in class, but actually finding the time and people to do it was the hard part. I worked with Kiiyah Stokes and Lynn McGrier where Kiiyah was the host and Lynn was the guest.

As producer, i was tasked with recording shots of Lynn and Kiiyah at different angles. I first, had to start the intro with the two of them in a wide shot, then, record just Lynn with Kiiyah asking her questions and Lynn answering, then, one of Kiiyah just asking the questions, and lastly, the two of them in a wide shot again. Moving the camera around and around was quite the task lol but we got the job done.

My Prezi Prezi Prezentation

This is my Prezi that we had to make in class of our Top 10 favorite things or just anything really. This was quite a challenge for me since I did food. I love so many different food but I had to narrow it down to 10.

Fun With the Green Screen

In class we learned about Chromakey and how to take pictures in front of a green screen. We went to the TV production room and took turns taking pictures and figuring out how we want to take our pictures. We went to the computer lab to get a background picture that would be behind us. It took time for me to find the right picture because my picture was centered and when i used a picture with people, i was blocking them. So i went with a regular picture of a club background and i was in the center.

" Bulldog Walk" Fashion Show

In class, we were teamed up into groups to do a little project in the TV studio. We were to do something like an interview or anything of that sort. My team decided to do a fashion show instead. My team was composed of: Kyre Cox, Deliah Stroman, Mufasa Shaw, Ericka Moore, and myself. Ericka and I were in the control booth creating the wonderful show!

This was shot on the campus of SC State  in the TV studio. Ericka and I used the Tricaster system along with the studio cameras. The production was very fun and I'm glad that I was able to work with such a great team.

Wednesday Class Activity

In Wednesday's class, we discussed recording someone and how to get the proper lighting when outside. Our teacher showed us two shots he took; one with the sun in the shot and the other with perfect light. He explained to us about the usage of light reflectors you simply hold it up to reflect the sun out of your face to create a great shot.

We went outside by the Bank of America ATM on campus to try out the activity on our own. We used the reflectors to take either selfies or get a classmate to take a picture of us with and without the reflector. We also had to get a shot of us taking the selfie using the reflector, meaning someone else had to take that picture.

Here are my examples

Action Sequence Video

In class, we were to pick a classmate and shoot them walking from the classroom to outside. The sequence video was to be unedited or slightly edited. The task was to capture them from a sort of far away angle and not to follow them with the camera, but to let them walk out of the shot.

I shot Shay'auna. The scene was the classroom, hallway, and outside on our beautiful campus at SCSU. This video was filmed on Wednesday, October 11, 2015.

Video Sequence Example: Opening a door

We have been learning about sequence shots and how to edit videos in class. So I took the time to record my friend Kayla in her dorm opening her door. This video was shot on the campus of SC State University .
Here is a demonstration on  How to open a door .

5 Shot Sequence Shooting Method : Opening the Door

Over the shoulder: Here you see her walking to her room.
Close-up of hands: Here she is putting her key in the lock and opening the door.
Wide shot: She has entered the room and you are able to see where she is.

Unusual shot: I was standing on a chair, therefore it is an aerial shot of her closing her door.

Close-up of the face: Here she has shut the door and is about to lock it.
